BKA was presented with the People’s Choice award at the Randwick City Council Architecture and Urban Design Awards Thursday night (30th July) for its new Life Science Building at Emanuel School, Randwick.
A lot of research and planning was put into the design of the Life Science building to embrace the challenge of a sloping site and provide students with a bright, comfortable and useful learning space. We are delighted that the public has recognised our design as their number one choice in urban design.
The Science, Technology and Library building is part of the masterplan for the site. On 23 August the D-Block, part of the next development phase will open, providing a yoga room/gymnasium, collaborative learning centre and 300-seat performance theatre. To make the most of the small and very steep site, BKA has excavated into the ground and is using terrace levels to link spaces together that double as innovative spaces for children to play.
