Georges River Council has commissioned BKA to lead the design on the $24million Penshurst Park Sporting HUB. The council is redeveloping an existing public park in to world class sports facilities alongside public recreational spaces. Stage 1 of the project — The Cricket Centre, will feature an indoor training facility and outdoor turf pitches. The indoor facility contains specialised training surfaces rarely seen in Australia. Construction is due to commence in September 2017.
Stage 2 consists of a FIFA grade synthetic sports ground for soccer, cricket and rugby events. The grandstand, players facilities, bar and canteen will sit alongside a major new Youth Centre. Elements of the existing park will be enhanced by including BBQs, exercise stations, a running track and children“s playground.
The final stage of the project is a major new extension to the Hurstville Leisure Aquatic Centre. An international sized Futsal Court is driving an ambitious brief, which also includes gymnastic spaces, indoor grandstand, players change rooms and cafe areas.
The final two stages are anticipated to be complete in 2020.
